For over 10 years Lois has been living dangerously as a full time painter.  In 1994 she took the brave step and traded in an eighteen year career as a Secondary art teacher with the Victorian Education Department.

Born in Yallourn Victoria, Lois exhibited a keen interest in art as a child, and was fascinated by art during secondary school.  The need for employment directed her life into Secondary Art training, obtaining a Higher Diploma of Teaching Art and Craft in 1975.  Studies at Ballarat Institute of Advanced Education and Melbourne State College were in Printmaking and Drawing.  Since graduating with distinctions, Lois concentrated on drawing and in 1983 was introduced to watercolours by artists Charles McCubbin, Colin Johnson and Sue Jarvis.

Currently Lois is living in Drouin painting full time and teaching art workshops.  The richness of subject material comes from the unique Gippsland environment, particularly the unspoilt countryside and coastal areas.  Her use of colour is ingenious, whether to suggest distance in a landscape or reflected light on a flower.  Lois uses traditional and experimental techniques in watercolours to capture changing moods in nature or studies of Australian fauna and flora.

Lois is a member of the Wildlife Art Society of Australasia, the Guild of Realist Artists and is mentioned in Women Artists of Australia by Max Germaine.  A regular entrant in Civic Art Exhibitions and Rotary Art Shows, Lois has received more that sixty major awards, including 1988 Queens Hall Parliament House Acquisition, and 2000 Camberwell Rotary Australian Works on Paper Landscape Award.  She has held solo exhibitions and participated in numerous group exhibitions in Victoria.  Her work is represented in Institutions and private collections in Australia and Overseas.
